Tag Archives: high end korean brand

back when i started my Korean addiction, Laneige had just arrived in the Philippines.  their flagship store is in Trinoma.  now they have three shops that i know of, Trinoma, the first one, SM Moa, and most recently, Edsa Shangrila Mall (Crossings)-kaching!  just walking distance from where the fx drops me off when i go to megamall, LMAO.

So how i do i get these samples? eeeeezeee, buy stuff from them.  laneige lippie post within the week, y’all.

I was quite hesitant to buy this bb cream as it didn’t really work out for my sister in law, so much so she gave it to the young lady that takes care of her kid, aka yaya/nanny.

so fine, i gave it a go, it’s just a sample anyhow if it didn’t work out at least i didn’t invest in it.  the sa said they only give out the natural beige [2nd] shade.  so ok, just like other korean shop, their samples are of the ‘darker’ shade.  i use that loosely cuz look at this!

it is with a heavy heart that i announce that my wonderful Laneige UV SPF40 PA++ reviewed here has been discontinued.  and well, why wouldn’t they now that they have a bb cream.

ingredient list:

on my face, ey, awesome coverage, i actually forgot to apply concealer under my eyes. not bad.  pic below taken without flash.

and below with flash.  not too reflective and the shade matches my skin, kinda.  the finish sorta matte.  it smells great, too.

but once upon a time, i got a sample of their snow crystal dual foundation spf 22 PA+ which i reviewed here.

finally i get to use it, and it still works! this of course is the ‘darker’ shade.

hoWleefrak, i love the combination.  i forgot how i love love this foundation.  forgive me laneige for getting sidetracked. imma gonna buy you this december, i promise! i just don’t know what i’ll do with the concealer on top LOL, still!  pic below is taken without flash and the foundation is on top of the bb cream

and below with flash.  the finish is luminous without being too bright and shimmery, really really natural looking brightening or luminous effect.  no sparkles.

my setting powder is the revlon colorstay mineral aqua (you guys know how i love that) and here’s what came out.  slightly ‘darker’ or natural looking than my usual.  do you see the slight difference of fairness from my face to my neck and chest? pic below is taken without flash.

below with flash.

and you betcha i’ll get the foundation either in HK or next pay day.  this foundation at the Changi Airport Duty free is SG$47.5 around PhP1700++ converted.  at Laneige Philippines, this is sold for PhP1650, then naturall i’d say it’s a done deal.

but things are generally cheaper in HK compared to SG so i’ll see my luck there for the foundation.

the likes and dislikes below will be about the bb cream since i’ve already reviewed the foundation here, and guess what, i still feel the same way about it.

LANEIGE SNOW BB CREAM LIKES:

  • the scent, it’s so lady like, not baby powder scent for high school or elementary but very lady like yet not matronly
  • the coverage, medium to buildable full coverage!
  • spf 41 pa++ not the best but it’s way up there.
  • lasting power, lasted all day
  • didn’t cake up the foundation
  • didn’t break me out
  • didn’t oxidize thank gawd, (since i had the ‘darker’ one lol)
  • oil control, 3.5/5 [1-being the lowest 5-being the highest] i’d still have to blot the oils away at least once or 2x a day in an airconditioned office and i don’t move around a great deal.
  • moisturizing

Neutral:

  • whitening – i’d be afraid if i get any fairer LOL and by just using bb creams
  • anti-wrinkle – i’ve only used it for 5 days (my minimum for trying out the bb cream for something to give me a zit, which in this case didn’t)

Dislike(s):

  • i guess the price? but then it’s high end, so i can’t dictate that, but it’s actually less expensive here in Manila than at the Changi Duty free so i guess it shouldn’t be so whiny.
This Laneige bb is cheaper than my shu uemura which is 2k when i bought it, while the clinique bb cream reviewed here (though only around 1400+ at Changi airport) is 1,850 here Manila, so Laneige’s bb is a tad cheaper than Clinique’s at least here in Manila.
  • currently only 2 shades

Do i recommend this? – definitely, specially to those who like bb creams, like high end, and are interested in Korean cosmetics

Will I purchase? – you bet- i loved it so much, that i bought the full size and this time i bought the luminous shimmer one, so not the ‘darker’ one.

oh Laneige how could i have gotten side tracked? never again

imma to just stick to what i know and what got me going on this blogging thing which are: Korean or Asian cosmetics [yez, me wants to try kevin beauty maker, esprique/kose, fascio, hera, and the rest] kpop stuff, and of course, food blogging.

my next purchases would be their holiday stuff hahaha already in the shelves.

my next laneige post would be about their awesome lippies my gawd, super non-drying/chapping!

Some of you that visit my channel and view my videos may have noticed that i usually do reviews on bb creams.  well, after a while, and even with not too many views, i still got noticed.  This time i was noticed by this rather new Korean Cosmetics company called The Skin Shop.  their website is http://the-skinshop.com/.  they contacted me through the youtube messaging system and asked me if i had heard of them.  well, i have, either in passing or i simply mistook the person mentioning it as a typographical error.  i actually thought the person who mentioned it meant either skin food or the face shop.  sorry po, tao lang 😉
Photobucket
so, they sent me another message asking me if i was willing to try their products.  eh alam mo nayan, [and you know what that means].  i agreed.  and thought that was the end of it.  oooops they’re for real.  for the life of me, the dude sending me youtube messages actually put their site on the messages but i didn’t pay a visit.  til this package arrived.

bubblewrap! my cats are happy naooo!
Photobucket
tadaaahhh, nak nang, weh, i thought they would be sending me samples not the full sized products!
Photobucket
ahmmm laway ng su-so, snail slime OMG and i thought only TM had that hahaha [TM’s version is live snail chorva].

Photobucket
and even the snail slime has a bb cream, well i meant there’s a bb cream under the recovery line [with the snail slime thing].
Mukhang mapapalaban ako ah [this looks like a challenge]  both I and my winxp pc’s as in both big mama and baby laptop both of  whom, i think, actually hate me as in despise me when i start editing my videos with cyberlink powerdirector.  dear batman, i’m sorry, but once again, ikaw na bahala hahaha.

afaik, there are 3 variants of this backstage collection, currently at 15800 skwon (PhP 613.974), i paid a little more to my suki  for her contact and the tax and shipping and handling, still, i didn’t pay 2 separate prices for a separate gel liner and an eyeshadow duo.
Photobucket
this eyeliner brush is just as wonderful as my maybelline studio and the face shop’s gel liner brush.
Photobucket
when i bought this i didn’t have too many golds or browns in my eyeshadow collection.  i’m glad now that i got it.
Photobucket
the gel liner, it’s in the middle of my bobbi brown long wearing gel liner and my maybelline, so it’s really manageable to apply and i take these gel liners over liquid liner anytime.
Photobucket
swatches.  i’m sorry the lighting washed out the shimmers.  the golden lighter shade is shimmery.  but the glitters are so fine and isn’t chalky to apply. it’s between a satin and shimmery finish.
Photobucket
the darker shade has shimmers as well but not overt, this one had a satin finish.
Photobucket
hahaha, the water test yep, when getting water thrown at you, your makeup won’t come off just dab a paper towel over your face and you should be good as  new LOL.

Likes:

  • packaging, it’s sleek yet practical two in one product with the gel liner at the bottom and eye shadow duo on top, comes with a mirror and a gel liner brush.  it’s tough to beat that for PhP700!
  • the quality of the eye shadows, they weren’t chalky at all, they were smooth to apply with a sponge tip applicator or an animal hair brush [elf eye shadow brush]
  • the liner is pretty good too, love the brown/black-ish color, kinda reminds me of my sepia ink bobbi brown gel liner
  • no fall out during application.
  • do not crease
  • easy enough to remove with makeup remover
  • and look, the water didn’t smear it
  • the price
Dislikes:
  • not available locally, which is a blessing in disguise imho, otherwise it might become overpriced when the tony moly brand do not have iverly expensive products
will i repurchase: yep, the other two shades when it fits the budget already.
do i recommend: yep, it’s cheap, fast and easy to use the way it was easy to use on my vid here:

One of the things i purchased the local Missha store at the SM North Edsa was this tea tree mask.  i bought 3  masks that day and got my fourth one for free.
they’re supposed to be chock-full of moisturizers and whatever the label says it contains.  the other night was tea tree.
Photobucket
OMG, the instructions are in ENGLISH!!  of course, i took it for granted that the directions would be in Hangul so i just did my normal obagi gel facial wash, pat my face down dry and put this on my face without the toner directions #1 stated i should do.
Photobucket
so i wait, and i was reading and delighted that the instructions and ingredients are in english.  wow 30 minutes on my face [grumble grumble]
Photobucket
it’s soaked sopping wet with the ingredients.
Photobucket
hay, i waited the full 30minutes instead of the minimum 20 as the back label suggested.  it kinda felt sticky and tingly on my face at the same time.  it was cooling and soothing on my face after a long day.  the mask is tad big on my face, but i suppose that’s so it would fit most faces.  the nose flap didn’t fit my entire nose 0_o and since it was soaking soppy wet i was kinda leaking which made me wrap my hair.  the smell was very faint.  it smelled like a mint leaf, kinda herbal-ly.

the effect.  nope no pic of me after, hehehe.  i was a shining shimmering splendor, hahaha must be all that glycerin and castor oil.  the tea tree in this is like the 12th ingredient on here.  usually the ingredients is listed from the ingredient with the most amount in the product down to the ingredient with the smallest amount.  so it’s a fair assumption for me to see that there is quite a small amount of tea tree on here.  the rest of the ingredients are the skin softeners, the alcohol etc.

my skin felt soft and supple the next day when i had to wash off what was left behind by the mask.  the supple feeling lasted well into the day.  i usually use tea tree for blemishes and the night i used this, i was hoping that the healing quality of what little tea tree there is in the mask would help me keep from getting a zit.  but about 36-48 hours later i got a little zit on the bridge of my nose.  must be all that glycerin, LMAO.

it’s a skin care routine that i maybe too lazy to do compared to applying a wash off mask or a sleeping pack.  so i’m kinda iffy on the whole facial mask routine.  but i did like the effect of the product the next day.  so i’ll prolly get to the next mask by next weekend.

DISCLAIMER:  i did read the part where it says it is adv to do the routine 2-3 times a week so i may have gotten better results if had tried this a few more times.
Likes:

  • the packaging, it’s simple and easy to tear off the top to get the product out
  • the instructions – the fact that they are in english
  • the fact that the mask is big that way, it makes room for a women of the non-petite type or MEN
  • the supple and soft feeling i immediately had after just one use of the product
  • the price, it’s something from the local Missha store i can afford hehehe
Dislikes:
  • the fact that the tea tree ingredient is way down the list.
  • castor oil, may have given me my little zit
Would i recommend this:  sure if you have the time and have the time and don’t get fidgety while you wait for something to go through it’s time.
Would i buy this again: i hardly ever buy anything twice, except maybe my two blushes, the stila lip and cheek stain and the lioele blooming pop pinky tint and my peach sake stuff.

the one common thing about shopping at korean stores is that they give samples of their products especially if you already have good rapport with the store manager or her sales ladies.
so when their repackaged phytogenic line came out i got this with my purchases.
Photobucket
they gave me the darker shade in nb23. there are currently only 2 shades that i’m aware of, nb21 the lighter more fair shade and this nb23 for those people who are not as white as snow.
before application…the consistency reminded me of bb cream sorta.
Photobucket
my face with just the face shop the skin extra bb cream as my primer.
Photobucket
and pics of me after the application: i noticed that though it’s thick and not too slick, it blends in my skin well and covers pores very very well. and it was able to cover my blemishes and broken capillaries. (yung mga maliliit na ugat na either red or parang violet).
Photobucket

it was enkore that said his face has a different shade from his neck and chest. i have the same issue. it’s only natural for people to have a slightly darker shade of skin on the face since that’s what sunlight hits all the time, unless of course you’re the type that always wear a tube top or a tank top LMAO.
so i thought all the while my shade was the 2nd shade from the lightest. but actually hahaha i really am scarily white and can pull off putting on the lightest shade of most foundations.
so why the disclaimer? i have shade 23 the shade second fr the lightest and or the darker one. therefore, it really looks nice on my face since it fits the skin on my face, just don’t look at my neck and chest for that matter hahaha. but with the flash it seems ok, right?

LIKES:

  • coverage, it covered almost all of the pores on my nose and the major ones on the side of my nose and it concealed my broken capillaries and redness around my nose well enough
  • hardly any scent
  • infinite? well not really, just around 12 to 14 hours, so it’s competition for my revlon colorstay
  • almost matte finish
  • only the top of my nose looked shiny even during a busy day
  • didn’t look cakey
  • i’m at a point of my cycle that one false move i get a zit, and well suffice to say my skin didn’t react to this.
  • looks better on me when the flash is on bwahahaha

Dislikes

  • thick consistency and it dries so quickly that it was difficult to blend, and people in the west complain about revlon colorstay’s quick drying? ha, they prolly haven’t tried this yet. so you’re better off using your fingers so that the heat of your fingers on your face will keep the foundation moist long enough for you to blend properly
  • the shade i have didn’t match the skin of my neck and chest…so i was going to invest in this liquid foundation i’d go for the lighter shade.
  • the price…hahaha no i didn’t pay for the sachet, i mean the price of the real deal. it’s PhP995 for 35ml with a pump dispenser. hmmm my revlon colorstay is only PhP825 but has no pump YET [revlon has announced that they’ll bring back the pump bottle for their colorstay liquid foundation line]

WILL I Purchase:
sure i would, so long as it’s nb21 and if i can use the receipt for the face shop calendar promo

Another long over due review of a wonderful makeup base.
Photobucket

woah once upon a time i dabbed, tried and set my sights on higher end Korean / Japanese cosmetics.

Photobucket

at the time i was still getting shades to match my face and not be scarily fair where as now i do my best to match my neck and chest area LOL so i’m no longer afraid of being scarily fair.  so at the time i got the number 2 natural shade.

Photobucket

it comes in this tube and that’s the end.  i like the firm yet easy squeeze tube. and the design is simple and elegant the way Laneige is.  but can get messy. as you can see.  but that’s entirely up to the end user.

Photobucket

kinda dark for my skin NOW but this spreads and blends out and really does look natural.

Photobucket

spread out a bit, there’s a bit of sheen but that goes away after a while and since it’s a base it’s a little tacky or sticky to the touch, ready for the foundation proper.

Photobucket

newly applied on my face, yeh my neck is more fair phhhfft.  i forget what i was thinking or looking at when i took this shot. hehehe.  so there’s not much coverage.  didn’t cover my pores much either.

Photobucket

after foundation and everything else…haba ng baba ko, sus….angle…bad LMAO.

Likes:
  • so as the name suggests it’s a base, indeed my foundations do stick to it and makes my foundation last much longer, and yep this is the base i wore to the super junior super show 2 and it made my revlon colorstay for oily combination LAST even longer than its usual.
  • SPF40 at the time i bought this, spf40 pa++ was pretty hard to beat unless you bought your stuff at shiseido or vmv hypoallergenics
  • shade match, at the time i bought this, shade 2 was just right for the skin on my face
  • the packaging.  efficient and controllable squirts from the easy squeeze tube
  • easy to spread or blend with fingers or a foundation brush
  • lightly scented. but dissipates quickly for those that don’t tolerate any scent.
  • does not affect the finish of your foundation.
  • did not break me out
Dislikes:
  • as usual, price.  since it’s laneige and marketed toward the higher end of the socio-economic strata the price is something that can’t be helped.
  • hardly any coverage.

Will i repurchase:  sure if  it’s within my budget.  i love how easy it is to spread and love it even more when applying my foundation on top of it.  it makes applying my foundation easier and smoother.
